Because of a system that John's work was using, and wanting to get rid off, John was owed a day off! So we decided to use it to have a family day, and go see some of this northern province that we've relocated to! Our destination: Tumbler Ridge. It's a little town 1 hour south of Dawson Creek. So small, they don't even have a McD! Which town doesn't have the golden arches! En route, we passed a bunch of these windmills. The girls had no idea how big they were, so we stopped right next to one! This picture really shows how big they are. The girls are standing on the stairs at the base, at the nose of John's truck.
We tried to count how many we could see across this span, but we lost count at 38
In Tumbler Ridge, they have a Dinosaur Discovery Gallery. After re-explaining the millions of years thing, we walked through in about 15 minutes. Wasn't really worth the time and $$, but we know for next time.
Fossils...
So the point of the trip was to see the Kinuseo falls. We had heard that they were taller than the Niagara Falls, so we figured that it would be worth the hour drive out of Tumbler Ridge. While the view was worth the drive, the roads weren't. Most of the gravel roads had serious washboard and we were going 40km/hr most of the time.
Once we got to the falls, it was a short walk to the first lookout. I thought the rock formation was cool!
You could take a jet boat down the Murray River to get the best picture of the falls, but we didn't take ours with ;)
just before it dropped down.
A little bit of information
It was so pretty
There was a sign that said lower lookout was closed. But we took it anyways. As you can see, it's not a path travelled often. Fortunately, we met a bunch of guys on their way out that told us that just ahead was a good lookout spot and that it wasn't worth it to go any farther than that. Very helpful information!!
It also had a few steep parts, but despite the heat and the bugs, the girls had no complaints!
We hope to have many more family days. Coming up... a trip to ALBERTA!!! So excited to see my family again. It's only been a few months, but the twins have grown so much already. Plus it's been about 4 years since JOhn's been to Alberta. I was requested to write up a list of names of my nieces/nephews and who they belong to so that he kinda knows them when we get there!
