Homeschooling

It's quite interesting to go to town and EVERYTIME be asked, "so kids, you glad to be back to school!" and then to see their response when one of the girls answer "we don't go to school, we homeschool!"

John and I have been tossing the idea back and forth whether homeschooling was for our family or not.
.. I am not a perfect mother, and do get frustrated with the girls... too often.
..With John being gone for 2 weeks at a time, would it be beneficial to me to have the girls home all the time by myself.
..With the girls being home, the flexibility of things to do on JOhn's days off increased vs. girls being in school and JOhn and I having that much free time to ourselves.
..the way the world is changing, pushing homosexuality rights etc.

So with much prayer and idea tossing between JOhn and I, we decided that we would try one year.

There have been a few struggles already.. of course.  Trying to teach different health, math and L.A. curriculum to each girl, going in depth with the necessary subjects.  Also, the fact is that just because learning one way works for me, that doesn't mean it works for them.  Trying to figure out the curriculum to get the most out of it is a learning experience for me. And then there's the balancing of all subjects throughout the week.  We have not received our socials, science, and fine arts curriculum yet. So right now we do Bible, L.A.,  and math everyday, and Health on every day except for Friday.  That will have to be changed once the rest arrives.  We do try to get exercise in everyday: walk to town, time spent at park, indoor exercises, etc. The girls enjoy my participation, but my old body groans :)

The benefit of homeschooling so far is when the girls "get it".  For L.A. last week, I made the girls write a story.  McKenna had to use 8 of her spelling words and in 12 sentences tell me a story. It could be fiction or non-fiction.  She chose fiction, and used walked, barrel, audience, awkwardly, drawn, bald, whacked and argued.  Here is her story:
    A Day at the Fair

One day I went to the fair. I walked a long time and I got to the rodio.  The people there where doing barrel racing.  There was a big audience.  I walked awkwardly up the stairs. Just then it started.  I was drawn to a seat.  The bald guy beside me gaily smiled at me. I whacked him in the side to stop.  He stood up and walked through a arch and never came back. A lark flew over my head and pooped right there on my head.  I argued with a man saying it was his pet.  He kept saying no so I guess it wasn't his.   THE END

Emmy had to write a true story about something she enjoyed this summer.  Here is her story:

Going Hunting

One morning I woke up and started to read.  When I put my book away I got out of bed and snuck to the liveing room.  I heard that my mommy and daddy were talking about going hunting.  When I heard that we were going hunting, my mouth opened and my eyes grew big.  A few minutes later we were ready to go.  I got my stuff and hopped in to the truck.  When we got to a good spot we saw a mommy moose and her baby.  When we turned around we went for a very long time. When we got home I got into bed and fell asleep.

I hope it continues to go well.

As soon as I can figure out how to load my pictures on here, I will have an overload of posts. But until then, they will be quite scarce :(  Hope you are enjoying the end of summer, and the beginning of fall.
